ENTERTAINMENT: Piracy, a threat to entertainment industry — Mr JackPublished 1 week ago on May 10, 2020 By MATEEN BADRU
A Nigerian artiste, Jack Idopise-Emmanuel, on Sunday condemned increasing rate of piracy, saying that it weakens progress in the entertainment industry.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, Jack said piracy was the greatest challenge of content creators which discouraged artistes.
“Piracy has always been the greatest challenge for content creators. It takes a lot of money to produce quality music and even movies as well.
Also, Pay adequate attention to your health, PMAN urges members.
“So, after investing so much money and time on a project and you fall victim of these selfish creatures, you lose a lot of money as you can’t benefit from your intellectual work of art.
“This alone could bring down the growth of entertainment industry in the country and also discourages artistes from putting much effort into their works.
“It is important that every artiste and even movie makers take responsibility by deploying legal act on every of their content in terms of copyright,” he said.
He urged relevant authorities to check the criminal act before ruining the entertainment industry.
“The appropriate authorities should also take charge by persecuting offenders according to the law.
“This can be done by setting up more platforms that will checkmate and effectively tackle issues of piracy,” he said.
Jack further said that artistes should be making more money if not for pirates who stole and illegally produced and circulated other people’s works.
According to him, piracy has robbed artistes of what they should benefit especially now that COVID-19 has affected their activities.
“Right now, artistes are looking up to royalties. That’s the streaming revenues they get from digital stores including YouTube.
“Streaming revenues is just like a supportive income for every artiste especially the A list stars who have thousands of fan based all over the world.
“This is usually not enough to live on as anyone can easily and illegally download an artiste’s works from the internet without any streaming payment.
“Loyal fans will always support their favourite artistes in order to boost their productivity though,” he told NAN.
Mr Jack then pleaded with fans to always stand by their favorites and keep supporting them in the right place and at the right time.
